Wow.

It seems like this whole gallery thing is just a big pain in my butt. So, I had called that lady from the first gallery we picked, telling her that we had to cancel because the space didn't fit our need. Well, I left her a message because she didn't answer. You know, I thought that had covered it. Well, apparently not. She apparently doesn't check her messages, and therefore didn't know we canceled. How frustrating. I gave her plenty of notice, and I kinda feel like it was her fault that she didn't answer. :/ But, whatever. I hope it's all fixed now.

Take two?

So, here are a couple of pictures from the other day. It's still London, but I got her more interacting with her momma. I feel like I'm going more toward exploring what kinds of things are passed down from parent to children.

In hopes that everyone's happy...

Sorry I haven't blogged all spring break. It's been one of those breaks that felt like it just added on to the stress. I barely had time to work on school work because of the real work that is required of me from gamestop. Nothing is worse than working a long shift dealing with pokemon crazed 10 year olds then needing to go home and edit a picture. Needless to say, it doesn't happen often. I really thought that being financially independent from my mother would make all my problems go away, but it's just added.

Anyway, to the photo related stuff. I was toying around with the idea of how to display my work. I was thinking of taking individual pictures of things my walkers find and placing them in a line to my section of the gallery. Kind of like following the trail to the experience (the main pictures). It's kind of what I hoped that would originally happen on the walk, but it didn't.

On a final note, I did reserve the space for us an the Mandeville Mill from April 25th to 29th. Now someone needs to go cancel on Farrago, because I actually met her I would feel too guilty canceling. Someone take the burden?

23 February 2011

I had no idea.

Trying to organize this show is taking longer than I ever though it'd take. The time is flying by, and we've not really accomplished much. There's still no band, or food ideas, or flyers ready to go. But, there's still two months to go..
I really hope that the band shows up to play next time, because we can't keep playing around.
I'm currently writing out the bake sale fundraiser budget, and looking up some cheap but tasty pastries.

24 January 2011

This was harder than I thought...

So, it was a lot of trying and failing on the first try of gallery looking. I had a lot of "We're all full for two years"... or "We aren't taking student art". I was also surprised to find the number of placing claiming to have gallery space, then not having it when I got there to look! I was blown away. I think it shouldn't be allowed to have "gallery" in your shop name, if you aren't, in fact, a gallery.
I couldn't believe that out of the 5 hours that I spent looking, only two places were promising. And one wasn't even open! Someone else told me about it.

I sent out a whole bunch of emails to galleries in Atlanta for information, hopefully they will get back to me soon, so we can get the ball rolling.

Above are some of thing subjects I've considered for my projects in the advanced photography class. As an art major, and a pyschology major, all of these subjects I have a firm grasp on. The gender identity for young girls is something both that I was subject to, and I feel is a problem that our society struggles with even today. I would want to explore the idea of a vessel of a child that is filled by  society by what they believe this child should be. It would be commentary of current social roles placed on girls, and how they have not really changed in several hundred years, no matter the feminist activism present.

More musings on the subjects tomorrow in class.
